Evaluation of tritium production rate in a blanket mock-up using a compact fusion neutron source

Abstract We report a neutronics study of blanket mock-up using discharge-type compact fusion neutron source. Deuterium–deuterium neutrons were irradiated to the mock-ups composed tritium breeder and reflector/moderator. The production rate (TPR) per source was measured by single-crystal diamond detector with 6 Li-enriched lithium fluoride film convertor after calibration process. Despite low yield, energetic alpha triton particles via Li(n, t) ? capture as well 12 C elastic scattering successfully detected SDD high signal noise ratios. TPRs experimentally evaluated errors 8.4%–8.5% at 1 ? level positions thermal fluxes where dominantly introduced uncertainties in monitoring rate. calculated experimental (C/E) values TPR be 0.91–1.27 (FENDL-2.1) 0.94–1.28 (FENDL-3.1). As can generate 14 MeV mixed gas deuterium tritium, this approach provides more opportunities for experiments.
